A Message from Fr. Pat Lee

The serious preparation for the re-opening of Immaculate Conception School was made possible by the Millennium Capital Campaign in 1999. The parishioners of Immaculate Conception raised 2.3 million dollars which was used to make improvements to the building and to build the pre-school wing.

The second floor of the pre-school was made possible by the parents who participated in the original IC the Future Campaign. Those parents pledged just under 1.4 million dollars. These pledges made it possible to secure the loan from the archdiocese to build the addition.

We continue that effort now as we complete the work on the new campus at St. Joseph. The archdiocese acquired a 99 year lease for us to the old Byrd School property. As you know, that property is being totally gutted and re-built into a state of the art facility. Again the archdiocese has given us a loan, using the old St. Joseph School as collateral. That property will eventually be sold, but is under lease to Walter Payton until 2015. The goal of our current campaign is 5 million dollars to offset the anticipated difference.

We are currently meeting to present the case to all school parents who have not contributed to the capital campaigns. These meetings will continue with new school parents every year until the debts are paid off. When the new facility is completed we will sponsor similar meetings there for parishioners from both parishes (Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph) to seek their support, as they too will benefit from the facility and the parking it will make available. Parishioners are sure to be more receptive and generous if they see that parents who have children in the school have led the way in sacrificing to make it a reality.
